Memories failing... brain system shutting down...
Not long ago, I bought a pink shirt and the DVD, 'Cape No. 7'. Not long after, I bought a pink shirt and the DVD, 'Cape No. 7'... totally forgotten that I already had them...
I hope I would forget to go to work next... my workplace would forget about me and still put me on their payroll...

at least it took that long....
Shuting vomitted today, throwing out everything we had for dinner. I read an article and heard from friends that it is only during the first trimster that expectant mother would feel nauseous and vomit. I had been counting down the days, being 24 Apr 09 the end of the her first trimster.
Hope today would the last time she had to throw out...

Little one wanted chocolate
"...and which piece of research does it come from?" My face was twitching as I scoffed off Shuting's latest attempt to use our little one in getting her way again.
"My friends who are pregnant said that. My mum too. Magazines cited research that revealed that the mummy would have certain craving because the baby wants to eat something."
So we spent our dinner at Fullerton Hotel's Courtyard having the chocolate buffet that Shuting loves. Having our baby as the hostage, she can be even more wanton in her demands now.
"I think our little one wants to drink some hot chocolate". She proceeded to the hot choc counter.
"I think our little one wants some chocolate ice-cream and some chocolate tarts." She wandered off without even giving me a look.
"Little one wants to walk around the counters again to check out the cakes".
I was glad that Courtyard served a lot of tea and they had a pianist... One research I was pretty sure about, a lady always find her way with her husband, especially a pregnant one.

Dawn of the maternal affection
It was surely not easy juggling work with personal issues. This morning, Shuting called me that she was having the cramps and her colleague had told her to visit a Gynae. I was feeling real guilty that I could only afford to give her a single short sms after that phone call.
I got home rather late and feeling dog-tired due to an unexpected work related issue.
"How are you?" I was concerned about the pains she was suffering from the cramps.
My wife gently stroked her abdomen and replied, "The Gynae said that we are both fine. I was so worried about our baby."
There it was a picture of a mother gently stroking her little one who was obviously devoid of all the worries the mother had gone through. All those while, it never dawned on me to be worried about our little one and Shuting was all I was worried about. I planted a kiss on her cheek. She wouldn't have known what the kiss was for. It was for my new Love -the mother of our child.

29 Oct 2009
"Yeah, you are expecting". There was no, 'Congrats, Mr & Mrs Chong. You are going to be proud parents!' from the GP. Nevertheless, by confirming that 1% I forgave him for not sharing that outburst of joy inside me. I gently held onto my wife's arm and my smile naturally stretched.
"What should my wife eat? What can she do/ not do? Does she need more vitamins?" I was going, 'Tell me! Tell me!'. The GP replied me like his answers were from the GP field manual, Chapter 6; What to do when that eager/idiotic just confirmed to be a father asked too far many questions. "She can eat almost everything and she should continue with her daily routine. Just avoid coffee and tea for now."
My wife and I were overjoyed. I saw she had the same smile when I proposed to her. She is going to be a mother and I am going to be a dad.
"She is about 6 weeks into the pregnancy. The expected date of delivery is 29 Oct 2009." Little one must have known that mom and dad got married on 27 Oct. Little one must be intending for Oct to be a great month for us all. I was starting to be so proud of this little one already.

Clear Blue
"It is a plus sign"I took the 'Clear Blue' kit from my wife who was by then smiling.
"Yeah, it is positive." I held onto the kit, momentarily staring at it. The kit read, (+) pregnant and there it was (+). "Can I keep it?" I really wanted to keep the kit in a special box, which people do when they have precious little things that they want to keep for Life. Till they grow old and pick up the items one by one telling their children or grandchildren about the memories that tagged along with each item.
I wanted to keep that kit and show my little one, "Well, it all started with this 'Clear Blue' that your mum got it from the Guardian pharmacy and your dad was catching some news headlines from the newspaper rack...".
"You sure you want to do that?" I looked up and saw my wife with this real silent happy look. I felt I was having this real silent happy look too. Perhaps, we were not too sure yet. It did say 99% sure but that 1% was probably enough to curb me from shouting from the top of this HDB flat for now.
We sat on the bed. It was planned but like all other plans, when things start to happen it almost looked like it was not planned in the first place.
"What should we do?"
"I don't know, let me call my mum." I did not think Shuting was trying to get some sort of advice. She is a nurse and she pretty well knew what she was supposed to do. I reckon she was more of trying to tell my in-law that she is going to be a mother herself. "She is not answering." I was still holding onto the kit, studying its two simpliest instructions: (+) pregnant, (-) Not pregnant like I had to understand a whole encyclopedia.
"Do you think I should see a Gynae tomorrow to confirm the result?" I nodded, there was after all that 1%. Here I am, spending the last few moments of the night getting 99% excited.
